Front of postcard (recto). Image of a destroyed cartoon ship beginning to sink. The ship is covered in flames and smoke as it begins to tip over and sink. In the foreground, there is a rowboat with soldiers helping other soldiers climb aboard from the sea. In the background, there is another ship.
Back of postcard (verso). Image of a page with text. Full text includes "111 Loyalist and Rebels Meet in Sea Battle Early in the morning of March 6, 1938, a Loyalist fleet of four destroyers and two cruisers met a Rebel fleet of four destroyers and three cruisers 70 miles off the coast of Cartagena. The fierce battle was ended when a "tin fish" launched by one of the Loyalist ships caught the Baleares amidships. At dawn Government bombers roared low over the stricken boat and strafed her with bombs and machine gun fire. Some bombs fell close to a British rescue ship, Boreas, killing an English seaman. When the Baleares began to list British rescuers urged the Rebel crew to jump overboard; but over 500 of them were burned alive or blown to pieces when its munition magazine exploded and its oil tanks burst into flames. Those who slid down ropes into the icy waters or who had nerve enough to jump were picked up by other Rebel ships and British vessels of the Non-intervention Patrol. Many drowned. To know the horrors of war is to want peace. This is one of 240 True Stories of Modern Warfare. Save to get them all and compete for 1000 Cash Prizes. Ask your dealer.
